In his third book-length collection, Robert Demaree returns to
the Lakes Region of New Hampshire, to the place and time of life he calls
“Golden Pines,” and to other stops along the way. Now, as shadows begin to
lengthen, he shows us again the bittersweet, ironic poetry located in the
experiences of everyday living, which critics and editors have found imbued
with a quiet wisdom, patient precision, a gift for describing the rituals of
place, a mastery of diction and voice, and an art that presents a briefly
stable moment in delicate relief, poems in which we feel at home, that “demand
further consideration.”

“Bob Demaree speaks not only with
the wisdom of age, but with the wisdom of the ages.He sees beneath the joys and
sorrows of this being human and is
able to capture the essence of it in one-liners you rarely expect. Whether he’s
closing up a cottage on the lake, attending a friend’s funeral or watching his
grandchildren learn to paddle a kayak, his words place you precisely wherever there is and make you feel it. The tenor
of his writing, like the accuracy of Cupid’s arrows, rarely misses hitting the
heart.”---Barbara Bald, author of Drive-Through

An addition to the School Readings page contains poems read at the opening faculty meeting of the Wolfeboro Summer Boarding School June 26, 2012. I have added a page titled "Effingham Poetry Workshops," with a summary of our third workshop held June 23, 2012. and poems by the participants.

The rather small number of copies of Fathers and Teachers and Mileposts that are still available (only one of Fathers and Teachers) have been transferred from the distributor to our residence in Wolfeboro, N.H. Scroll down for further information.
In his second book-length collection, Robert Demaree turns his attention to the place and time of life he knows as Golden Pines and takes us back to the Lakes Region of New Hampshire, whose mythic woods and meadows informed Fathers and Teachers.

Again, he finds in the experiences of everyday living a poetry that is ironic, bittersweet, always accessible, and, as John-Michael Albert (editor of the 2008 and 2010 editions of the Poets' Guide to New Hampshire) notes, "demands further consideration."
From a daughter's graduation to a young man's funeral, from Louisiana, forlorn after Hurricane Katrina, to the pristine woods and lakes of New Hampshire, where he lives five months of the year, Robert Demaree takes us to the places and events of shared experience, in verse that is ironic, buttersweet, and always accessible. You will say, with Jillian Meyer-Bledsoe, author of Leaving Newfound and co-editor of Ghoti Magazine, "I know that place."

Robert Demaree is the author of three other collections of poems: Mileposts (see above), a chapbook titled New Hampshire Pond and an online collection, Things He Thought He Already Knew; he has published over 550 poems in 235 periodicals. A retired school administrator with ties to North Carolina, Pennsylvania and New Hampshire, he has also written a history of Greensboro (N.C.) Day School.
